Royal Northern Sinfonia presents Beethoven 2020: The Next Generation

Royal Northern Sinfonia presents Beethoven 2020

Friday 24 January
at St Cuthbert’s Church

Start the year of Beethoven celebrations with the boundary-stretching form and intense emotional range of the ‘Eroica’. But first, enjoy Symphony No.1 – with musical jokes worthy of Mozart and Haydn.

Royal Northern Sinfonia presents Beethoven 2020

To celebrate the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth, Royal Northern Sinfonia perform the nine symphonies that changed the course of classical music – works that still inspire young conductors and composers today.

Beethoven 2020: The Next Generation asks five emerging conductors and composers in their 20s and early 30s why Beethoven still matters in the year 2020. Through their interpretations and compositions, they will be giving their personal answers. Each instalment of the cycle will involve performances of Beethoven’s symphonies, alongside a new, short commission in response to Beethoven, selected from their RNS Young Composers’ Competition.

Join them for the complete cycle – right on your doorstep at St Cuthbert’s Church in Carlisle – and find out what Beethoven has to say to you!
