An oriental restaurant based in the heart of the Lake District is a hit with its customers with plenty of ‘excellent’ reviews on Tripadvisor.
West View Restaurant, based in Bowness-on-Windermere, offers a selection of modernised oriental cuisine including Chinese, Japanese and Korean – as well as western cuisine such as full English breakfasts.
All food is freshly made with mostly locally sourced ingredients, prepared and served in a high standard hygienic environment.
Sushi, curry, noodles, bibimbap and sandwiches are offered in various versions, including meat lovers, low calories, special spicy favours, vegetarian and vegan.
The partners of Jiao and Guo were new immigrants from Dalian – one of the most modernised coastal cities in China with diversiform Japanese, Korean and Russian cultures. Mr Feng Jiao (well known as Jon) started his catering career as an assistant chef in a five-star luxury hotel in his early 20s.
After 20 years working in top Chinese and Japanese restaurants in China and Australia, he decided to bring his unique cuisine to the Lake District, his wife Dr Liuchen Guo’s favourite place.
Dr Guo is an academic professional specialising in Cruise Management and Marketing. Her worldwide experiences contribute to the style of the cuisine in order to make sure the restaurant delivers the best quality food and service under a new concept – a post-pandemic lifestyle.
After being delayed by the world’s most dramatic lockdown in human history, West View Restaurant finally opened in the heart of the Lake District in August 2020.
The restaurant has received a 4.5 star rating on Tripadvisor and those that had visited had lots of positive things to say about the place.
One review, which was left about two weeks ago, said: “We had a fantastic evening, the food was amazing. Asian cuisine, a varied menu, lots of choice. Service excellent. Reasonably priced. Contemporary surroundings/furnished. We will definitely return next time we are in Bowness.”
Another said: “A positive surprise up the hill from the lake opposite the cinema. Judging by the Chef’s specials I would say they start from Korean cuisine, but they do excellent Japanese fried noodles and crispy duck with homemade plum sauce. Bright clean decor and a very clean visible kitchen.”
A third left the review: “Had a lovely meal in this newish Asian restaurant on a recent stay in Windermere. Food was delicious (Bibimbap & Yakitori) – really varied choice of dishes – plenty of choice for future visits. Service was very friendly and helpful and the cost for the meal including wine was very reasonable. Looking forward to a return visit.”
Another customer said: “We had a lovely meal at West View. The staff were welcoming, the food delicious and the venue immaculate. I would highly recommend a visit. I was also impressed with the hi-tech toilet. Amazing stuff.”
A review said: “The food here was so so nice, as were the staff too would definitely recommend to anybody visiting Windermere.”
